Strive Centre Vancouver Awarded a Grant for 2019

We have some excellent news to report at the start of this new year. Strive Centre Vancouver's Music Program has been awarded a grant in the amount of $3300! This financial support will allow the Centre to maintain current music therapy programming level of 2 hours per week. Heartfelt thanks to Music Heals Canada for supporting us for the 2nd consecutive year! This program invites all abilities and levels to explore the therapeutic value of music. Bud’s Story, an Assisted Living Tenant

Bud has been an Assisted Living tenant with Strive for five out of ten years since he experienced a spinal cord injury. During his recovery process, professionals told him he would not be able to complete daily tasks the same as before. This information lead to feelings of depression for eight years and weight gain. Bud lost the weight over the last two years and would like to inspire others in a similar situation.   During his recovery shortly after injury, professionals told Bud he should not expect to improve or make progress. Congratulations Elizabeth Bauden, lucky winner of $1000 from our Assisted Independent Living (AIL) Referral Program in 2018! The AIL Department very much appreciates the contractors who have taken the time to refer their friends, family, colleagues, and neighbours to our program. Contractors receive a $25 bonus when they refer someone to the AIL program and they successfully apply. If the referee completes their application and a client is successfully placed in the home, the contractor receives a $300 bonus. Listen to Strive’s 2018 Acquired Brain Injury BBQ Guest Speakers

Strive held its annual ABI Awareness BBQ in June. Despite the downpour, over 100 people braved the weather, socialized, and had lunch at Queen's Park, New Westminster. Guest speakers, Shannon Vrsnik, Director of Assisted Independent Living and Jennifer Burgmann, an inspiring brain injury survivor and advocate stole the show. Jennifer is part of our Assisted Independent Living program and resides with a home share provider.
