The Assisted Independent Living (AIL) Program provides accommodations and supports to adults with acquired brain injury, mental health diagnoses, as well as physical, developmental, and medical healthcare needs.
What is the goal of Assisted Independent Living West Vancouver? The goal of the AIL Program is to assist the people we support to live independently by helping them to develop their life skills and maintain a high quality of life.
What does Assisted Independent Living offer? This program is fully individualized so how the service and supports are delivered is unique to the person requesting the service. The individual can choose to be involved with the West Vancouver homeowner as much or as little as they prefer. Getting active in the community is often a critical piece to those people choosing to live in our homes. Individuals are welcome to bring their belongings to the home so it feels comfortable and familiar or the accommodations can be furnished. Assistance moving in/out is provided. The Assisted Independent Living Program offers two types of homes:

Neighbourhood Homes A person receiving services chooses to live in a care provider’s home that has a separate full suite or shared accommodation setting (bedroom with a window and closet but shares the other areas of the home like the kitchen and living room with the care providers). Individuals require supports throughout the day from the care provider.
Neighborly Living A person receiving services lives in care provider’s home that has a separate full suite. Individuals require limited supports throughout the day from the care provider. The care provider can assist with any of the below (but are not limited to):
- Behavioral support/Interpersonal skills training
- Meal planning/grocery shopping
- Personal finances/budgeting
- Participation in shared and individual chores
- Leisure planning/ Participation in recreation and leisure programs
- Use of community transportation
- Addressing medical/mental/healthcare issues
- Cooking and housekeeping duties
- Life and social skills development

We are currently seeking homes throughout Greater Vancouver, BC and Powell River. If you have an available suite or room in your home and experience working with individuals with disabilities or acquired brain injury, please apply.
Care providers must have a suite or room available in their home, a valid BC driver’s license, and a minimum of one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities or acquired brain injury. Homes with wheelchair accessibility are preferred but not required.
